My Word for 2014 – SEIZE

If you remember from last year I gave myself one word to live by {here}.  I have been thinking for the last week what my one word should be for this year based on what my goals and desires currently are.  The word that I have chosen is

Seize: to grasp mentally; understand clearly and completely.  Synonyms: grasp, clutch, capture.

Why is seize the word for me?  Let me tell you.  I am the type of person who is constantly looking forward to ‘the next thing’.  It is very hard for me to live in the moment and take it all in.  Especially in the last few years have I had a hard time ‘living in the moment’ because I’ve had kids and am constantly thinking to myself, “I cannot wait until she can start walking.  It will be so much easier when she can start feeding herself”, etc.  But there are always those old ladies that tell you in the grocery store while your little ones are on the floor throwing a tantrum, “I promise, one day when they are moved out of the house you will miss these moments”.  “Um, really?”, I think to myself.  But I know they are right.  I don’t want to look back and feel sorry that I didn’t take time to soak up the things in life that make me happy.

“Open the gates and seize the day {open the gates and seize the day}
Don’t be afraid and don’t delay {don’t be afraid and don’t delay}
…Arise and seize the day”

You know you are all singing this in your heads now and will probably have it in your heads the rest of the day!  I don’t think I have actually ever seen Newsies, but after coming up with my word for some reason this song popped into my head.  I thought I would make a printable so that I can hang it on my fridge to remind me to seize the day, even the not-so-good moments.

Another song that popped into my head while writing this takes me back to my high school days.  Maybe not a song you’ll want to sing all the way through 😉 but these words are pretty good:

Look, if you had one shot, or one opportunity
To seize everything you ever wanted. One moment
Would you capture it or just let it slip?

I can probably rap off the rest of the song to you right now!  “Lose yourself in the music the moment you own it – you better never let go”

Seize the moment.  Capture it.  Take a mental snapshot, if you will.  Seize every opportunity that comes your way.  For these moments in your life only last but a snippit; and one day they will be gone.

I hope that you will join me in seizing the day and losing yourself in the moment!  Thank you Newsies and Eminem for helping me out with my point hopefully made!

Happy 2014 everyone!  I wanna know, do you have a WORD for 2014?  Share it with me if you do!

    That’s a really good one, I may have to borrow it. I need to do this so much better than I do. I feel like I blinked and my baby turned into a toddler. I’m choosing the word “balance” because I want to have more of it in all aspects (physical, spiritual, family, mental, fun, work, etc.).ReplyCancel

    Seize can totally apply to me too, but I think my word would be Focus. I need to be more focused on my children & the important things as well as the work/life things. To really pay attention & feel accomplished afterwards.ReplyCancel

    My word is happy/happier/happiest. I read the book The Happiness Project and loved it. So I am doing my own Happiness Project this year. So Happy seemed fitting.ReplyCancel

    My word for 2014 is shine. I love this quote: Lighthouses don’t go running all over an island looking for boats to save, they just stand there shining.ReplyCancel

    My word is grow! Do you follow the shine project? She had the idea to put your word for the year on one of her bracelets and they’re on sale 🙂 I just ordered one and I’m so excited! Just thought I’d share the fun 🙂ReplyCancel

Hey, I'm Kami!

Welcome to the blog

Wife to my Jr. High sweetheart, mother to three daughters. I have always loved being social and staying connected with other people who have similar interests to me. I started a blog back in 2010 and have been in the social networking scene since then. I love meeting new people and helping them feel confident, and see their own beauty.
