DIY Party Garland Using Paper Plates & Straws

I want to throw a party now, how about you?  (I am throwing one in October, can’t wait to tell you about it!)  This fun party decor idea was inspired by a window display in the mall.  If you have been to Bohme lately, or at least walked by, I am sure this display caught your eye…

Love, Love, Love this!  I took this about a month and a half ago with my phone and knew it’d be so fun to make!

All you need is: paper plates (the flimsy kind), straws, yarn, RIT fabric dye.
I got my paper plates and straws from the dollar store.  The yarn was found in my stash of crap.  The RIT dye was found at JoAnn’s.

Here is the how-to in a nut-shell:  I put mine together with no rhyme or reason.  I didn’t measure the straws to be any certain length, didn’t care if my color around the edge was perfect, etc.

In step 6, make sure you only cut a teeny, tiny snippit off of the corner so that your hole isn’t bigger than the straw’s diameter or you will have problems!

One warning to ya, do not attempt to make this in one day!!  The folding part will wear you right now and your fingers may be a little sore!  I used the side of a Sharpie marker to make my folds in the plates so I could get them to be tight folds without ruining my folding finger!  Just lie your plate down on a table then rub the side of the marker down the fold to crease it.

Another way to hang these fabulous things…

And you can bet your bottom dollar that I will be making a garland made from paper doilies!  LOVE!

Now go plan a party so that you can make some of these!  🙂

Hey, I'm Kami!

Welcome to the blog

Wife to my Jr. High sweetheart, mother to three daughters. I have always loved being social and staying connected with other people who have similar interests to me. I started a blog back in 2010 and have been in the social networking scene since then. I love meeting new people and helping them feel confident, and see their own beauty.
