If you are familiar with protein bars then the chances are likely that you’ve already found your favorite(s)! Protein bars may be an acquired taste to people that are first trying them out. There are some really gross ones out there!! I will share with you a few of my favorite protein bars and where you can find them for a great deal.
First off, let me share with you why it is so good to have these both on hand and in your pantry. These little bars have the nutrition in them to help your brain function (fats) to help build & repair muscle (protein) and to give you energy (carbs). Protein bars are great items to have in your food storage/72 hour kit in case of emergencies. While it wouldn’t be wise to live on protein bars solely,
they are easy enough to take with you if you need to leave your home for any reason. In fact, I try to limit myself to no more than 2/day, although I only usually have one at 5am on my way to the gym to jump start my day.
If you are out and about, these are great snacks. I keep one in my car or purse in case I am gone from my home longer than planned. I consider Protein Bars a must if you are trying to lose weight. These are great to have in the car for road trips as well!
My #2 pick for tastiest protein bar is the Zone Perfect bar. These are the most cost-effecient of my picks. Most of the flavors contain 14g of protein. I found a new favorite the other day at Walmart called Cinnamon Roll, this one has 15g of Protein. Anyways, I haven’t tried a flavor of Zone Perfect bars that I dislike, they are all pretty good. The Fudge Gram is a keeper for sure. Now, because this only has 210 calories, 14g protein, 23g carbs, and 7 g of fat, I need to pair this with something else for it to equal a meal. I usually do a fruit such as an orange or an apple, and maybe a few almonds. Or I also like pairing it with string cheese.
You can find these bars in most grocery stores sold singly, they usually are $1-$1.50. BUT I pick mine up at Costco (in store) for around $18 for 24 bars which makes them around .70 cents a bar! That’s a great deal!
The Nugo Bar is a favorite in our entire home. I let the kids eat these (unlike the others), because the protein isn’t as high. There are 11g of protein, 26g of carbs, 3g of fat, and 170 calories. This for sure needs to be paired with something else for on of my meals. These are really delicious and don’t taste like protein bars at all, more like a Rice Krispie Treat! I usually pair this bar with a string cheese.
I buy mine in Costco. There are 24 of them (3 different flavors) for about $18. This is a great snack to have on hand for the kids while we are running errands, at church, etc. My girls don’t love meat so I feel comfortable giving them these for protein. (I give them half).
**I have tried quite a variety of protein bars and these are my top three. I would like to know if any of you have a favorite Protein Bar that I should try. Let me know!
Balance bars are tasty too… Not as satisfying but tasty 🙂
Thanks for this post. I tried the Snickers bars and thought they were great!
Good to know favorites! Do you enjoy the mozz string cheese over cheddar stick? I thought cheese was a great snack, and my husband was saying today, it isn’t the “good fat” like avocados and such. I feel so conflicted hearing so many different things! I need someone to make out a meal plan for me!
