Da-Da-Da-Daaaa. The ultimate cake-batter recipe is here! Birthday Cake Oreos! Remember when Nabisco came out with these for their 100th birthday? Well, I came up with a homemade version! Yum!
Homemade Birthday Cake Oreos
1 pkg Duncan Heinz Devil’s Food cake mix
2/3 C Crisco (no butter or margarine)
2 eggs
splash of vanilla
Mix well, but don’t overmix*. Use large end of a melon baller to measure the balls. I like to keep them pretty small, about 1″ in diameter. Roll into balls. Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 8-10 minutes at 375 degrees. You will not want to overcook. I keep mine in for 8 minutes tops. I like my Oreos to be plump rather than flat. After cookies cool, put a dollop of frosting in the center of two cookies and then smoosh them together rather than spreading frosting on with a knife (this makes them thicker and plumper and yummier!).
Cake Batter Filling
1 stick butter
1 (8oz) cream cheese
1 tsp Vanilla
1 C Powdered Sugar
Green and blue food coloring
2 1/4 C Funfetti cake mix
Cream butter, cream cheese, and vanilla together. Add the powdered sugar and 1 drop of green and 1 drop of blue food coloring (this will give it the ‘cake batter’ color) mix just a little. Slowly add the cake mix. The mixture will start to become a little ‘dough’-like rather than frosting-like. That’s okay though because you’re not ‘frosting’ the Oreos, you are just going to put a dollop on and sandwich them together! Add a few sprinkles around the outside and you’re done!
