Remember last week when I announced that I was going to be part of something fun with The Home Depot? I announced I was making this seasonal door hanger and well today, I am super-excited to be revealing it. I made mine a tad different and am sharing with you how to make a DIY Reversible Door Hanger. This is all part of the Do It Herself workshop this month at a Home Depot location near you.
I love this project because you not only get 1 holiday decoration out of it, but you get 2! You see, its reversible which makes it fun and functional. It was really hard to decide what I wanted to do on not only one side, but the other side as well. I figured since Halloween is nearly days away, I would do a witch themed door hanger on one side…
…and something for Christmas on the other! Don’t you love how you can hit to holidays with one stone? {insert clapping emoji here}.
This project is easy to make. I took the same plans that they used for the seasonal character door hanger, and tweaked them a bit to make my own spinoff. You can follow these directions to make your own or if you wanna make it a girls night out then be sure to register for the DIH Workshop HERE. It will be held on October 22nd at your nearest Home Depot.
DIY Reversible Door Hanger how-to…
Here are the supplies needed for my spin-off:
1 – 1″x3″x8′ common/pine board
1 – 1″x4″x8′ redwood
2 – 1 5/8″ Zinc-Plated Steel Eye Screw
Brad nails (I used about 20)
1 – 1/4″ x 50′ Manila Rope
1 – Carpenter’s wood glue
Tools:
Brad Nailer
Sander
Miter Saw
Safety Goggles
Measuring Tape
Pencil
Here are the cuts to make:
Measure and mark your wood and then cut as shown. Once you get them all cut then take your tongue and groove board and glue them together as shown below.
Place your ‘now pallet sign’ on top of one of your 1″x3″ boards and glue. Then add your angled pieces and glue. Last, you will take the second 1″x3″ boards and glue that on top. This will leave your ‘now pallet sign’ sandwiched in between.
Next, you’ll want to take your brad nailer and secure the pieces. I put a nail in each pallet, and on the ends of the 1″x3″ boards then flipped the whole thing over and did the same nails on the other side.
After nailing, sand it nice and smooth to prep it for whatever you are planning to paint on it!
For my North Pole sign, I stained the tongue and groove pallets then free-handed the writing on. I was inspired by this design HERE.
If you are planning on hanging it on your door, insert the eye hooks and tie on the rope. For the Halloween sign, I inserted my eye hooks on the sides so that my thin pallets wouldn’t strip. To ensure the sign wouldn’t hang crooked on my door because of the heavier side, I tied a loop hole at the top of my rope to balance the weight.
Now that you have seen how easy it is to make this DIY reversible door hanger, you can make one too! In fact, you should gather a group of your favorite girlfriends together and register for the Home Depot’s DIH Workshop! It will be held at a Home Depot near you and you can make this project in the class, just purchase the materials and create!
